Eileen Gets Her Medal - 17 Jan 2009

Tagged as: Eileen gets her Medal!

On the 16th January Eileen received her medal in recognition of serving during the war in the land army.

Keith Simpson MP arrived at 2.30pm to present a very surprised Eileen with her medal. Family had travelled from Kent, Essex & Hertfordshire to be with her. Denise had made a cake & decorated it with tractors & farm paraphernalia. Keith Simpson gave a short speech mentioning that his mother had also been in the land army. Eileen had been posted to Lincolnshire; where when confronted by the farm animals she had run! As a London girl she found life in the country very strange!  A reporter came from the local press & a cameraman from Anglia TV, Eileen was a natural she spoke to both is now enjoying her fame!

Following the sucess of visits from the RSPB Elaine organised a surprise afternoons entertainment from Mark a Falconer. He brought in various birds of prey, giving a brief introduction to each.  He brought with him a Kestrel, Snowy owl, Indian Eagle Owl & Barn owls. The residents were enthralled.

Knocking Through!! - 10 Jan 2009

Tagged as: News

On the 9th January the builders knocked a communicating door through from the ‘old house’ into the corridor of the new extension. Once the dust had settled & we acclimatised to the drop in temperature, we were able to start to visualise what everything would look like. The feeling of light & space was incredible. Broadlands Park has a warren of internal corridors & suddenly to see the  wide corridors & all the natural light ( from sun pipes) it was startling.

The bedroom doors are being painted in 4 different colours to help clients with recognition & orientation.

We have chosen yellow for the en-suite doors & the disabled toilets.

The roof is now finally on! The underfloor heating has been laid, the electricians are in & the plastering should start next week. All systems go.  By Christmas we should have 18 new single en-suite bedrooms, treatment room, assisted bathrooms & a small lounge. With the help of the clients I am organising colours for carpets, curtains & doors.  Once I have successfully mastered the art of adding information to the web site, I will try to update frequently & keep up to date with the progress of the building work. This is only phase one we have phases two & three to come next year!
